We have some breaking news to report: a pedestrian has tragically died after being hit by a car at the intersection of Maine and Western Avenue in downtown South Bend. The incident occurred a few minutes before 7:00 p.m. According to authorities at the scene, an elderly couple was driving down Main Street when their vehicle struck a woman who was laying in the street. Upon arrival, the police confirmed the woman’s death.
We spoke to an eyewitness who was present shortly after the incident occurred at the intersection. They stated that they saw someone lying in the middle of the street, prompting them to stop and assess the situation for ways to offer assistance. While waiting, they witnessed a car hitting the individual and dragging them approximately 10 feet. The St.
Joseph County fact team is currently investigating the incident, and authorities have not yet identified the deceased woman..
