One man is in critical condition after an officer-involved shooting in Taylorsville that happened late Friday night.
Police were called to a home where a male was having a mental episode and was also suicidal.
The homeowner told officers that his friend, 35-year-old Alex Boren, suffers from PTSD and is possibly schizophrenic.
When officers arrived, Boren had a knife and a pair of scissors and was destroying property while causing self-inflicted wounds to himself.
Officers used multiple less lethal options that were not effective before ultimately discharging their firearms and taking Boren into custody.
Two of the five responding officers are on administrative leave as part of the protocol, and Boren is still in critical condition.
The investigation is being conducted by the Salt Lake County protocol team.
