Oceano CSD has rejected a proposal for annexation with the city of Grover Beach in a 3-2 vote, effectively ending the discussion of the possibility of merging the two communities.

The decision was made after a large crowd voiced their opposition to the proposal, citing concerns about the price tag for the feasibility study and public safety issues, among others.

While some community members spoke out in favor of exploring the possibility of annexation, the majority of the board voted against moving forward with the merger.

The proposal will remain off the table unless a sizable number of people come forward and support it.

In related news, Oceano is set to leave the 5 Cities Fire Authority on June 30th, which means the county will have to address flooding, infrastructure, and public safety issues on its own.
