According to the Oakland Police, an officer defended himself when he shot and killed a man who attacked him near City Hall. The incident occurred at around 4 a.m.

The officer had just arrived at work and was getting out of his car when the suspect ambushed him. The suspect opened fire without warning, and the officer responded by firing back, ultimately killing the suspect. The Oakland Police Officer Association is relieved that none of their officers were injured or killed, and commend the officer for his quick actions in dealing with a dangerous criminal.

Shot Spotter technology alerted the police to the scene, where they found a gun and several shell casings. This shooting has left many in the area feeling uneasy, as they have experienced previous incidents of violence nearby. The officer involved is a veteran of the Oakland Police Department and works at a building near City Hall. He believes that this incident highlights the level of crime that both residents and police officers face on a daily basis in the city.

The sergeant is currently on paid administrative leave as the investigation continues..
