Nevada Democrats are pushing for the decriminalization of small amounts of psilocybin mushrooms and researching the benefits of other controlled substances.

The use of magic mushrooms may become legal for adults in Nevada if Senate Bill 242 passes, allowing for the use of the psychedelic in amounts smaller than 4 ounces.

The bill has gained support from doctors who believe that psilocybin could provide a solution to opioid dependency, as well as aiding in the treatment of mental disorders like PTSD, anxiety, depression, and addiction.

However, some members of the community have expressed concern about potential abuse and overdose, though experts say the lethal dose for psilocybin is very high.

The bill would need to pass both the state Senate and assembly before becoming law, but if it does, it could have a significant impact on Nevada’s mental health and opioid crisis.
