National City Teacher Arrested for Multiple Sex Exploitation Charges
Jacqueline Ma, a National City teacher, is facing multiple charges, including sex exploitation of a child and dissuading a witness or victim.
The charges come after Ma was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Ma was released on bail, but she was arrested again on Thursday after detectives found probable cause to re-arrest her on additional felony charges.
Experts are now weighing in on the case.
Retired San Diego Police sex crimes investigator, Frank Bradley, said that investigations like this tend to evolve, and additional victims or evidence may be discovered.
Jessica Pride, a sex crimes attorney, said that the dissuading a witness or victim charge could mean that Ma tried to contact the victim or a witness to change the outcome of the investigation.
Ma is also facing several counts of possession or distribution of child pornography.
It is unclear whether she was sending the student pornographic materials or engaging in sexting with them.
A parent contacted National City police suspecting that her 13-year-old child was having an inappropriate relationship with Ma, leading to the initial arrest.
Ma’s court appearance is set for Monday afternoon.
