The name of the deceased person has not yet been disclosed. It was a busy weekend for firefighters in Sullivan County as they battled two massive fires in two days.
On Saturday, crews from multiple towns responded to a three-alarm fire on Gilman Pond Road in Unity. A firefighter at the scene confirmed that everyone managed to safely evacuate the home.
Sunapee Fire Department received a call around 1:30 in the afternoon and stayed at the scene for nearly four hours. Many of the firefighters who responded to the fire in Unity also assisted at the site of Friday’s fire in Northfield, where a building from the 1800s was completely destroyed.
Newport’s Police Chief stated that one person suffered minor injuries..
