Authorities in South Carolina are now investigating the death of Stephen Smith, a 19-year-old who was found dead near the Murdaugh family home back in 2015.
His death was originally ruled a hit and run, but new evidence has recently been discovered, linking his death to a homicide.
Stephen’s mother, Sandy, has always believed that her son was murdered, and now she is “elated” by the recent developments in the case.
In an exclusive interview with News Nation’s Chris Cuomo, Sandy and her attorney, Eric Bland, revealed the major development that Stephen’s death is now officially considered a homicide, nearly 8 years after it was declared a hit and run.
Stephen was on his way home from school when he ran out of gas, and his car was found down a dark road in Hampton County, South Carolina.
His body was found 3 miles away in the middle of the road with no physical evidence that he had been hit by a car.
There are rumors that Stephen may have had a boyfriend or a relationship that may have had something to do with his death, but there is no known evidence linking any Murdaugh family members to his death.
Stephen’s mother hopes that this news will bring them closer to finding closure after losing her son.
