Jose thank you for joining us. Currently, deputies are still searching for a missing seven-year-old who went for a swim but has not resurfaced. Caleb Califano is live at the search site in Jensen Beach.
Caleb, you were the first reporter on the scene when this incident occurred almost 24 hours ago. It was a challenging situation out there, wasn’t it? That’s correct, Aaron. As of now, Nick Levinson and Lindsey have not been found, and the Sheriff’s Office is informing us that they are transitioning this from a rescue mission to a recovery operation.
Let me provide you with the latest information. According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Nick Lindsey arrived at Sea Turtle Beach early yesterday morning with his girlfriend for a photo. Unfortunately, after going into the water multiple times, he was pulled underwater for the majority of the day.
Law enforcement and fire rescue did everything in their power, including utilizing divers, boats, and the Sheriff’s Office helicopter, to find him. However, due to the hazardous conditions, search crews had to be pulled out of the water. The safety of our lifeguards is crucial, and striking a balance between their protection and an exhaustive search for the victim was necessary.
We have now learned that Lindsey was a student at Saint Lucie West Centennial High School. Support services will be available for his friends and classmates this morning..
