The Canadian federal government has announced that Michael Duheme will be the interim RCMP commissioner, taking over from Brenda Lucki, who resigned due to personal reasons.
Duheme, who has 34 years of experience with the RCMP and hails from Saint-Bruno, Quebec, will serve until a permanent replacement is appointed.
Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino thanked Lucki for her service, which was marked by controversy over the handling of several high-profile cases, including the Nova Scotia mass shooting and allegations of systemic racism within the RCMP.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau praised Duheme’s appointment and reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the RCMP continues to provide excellent service to Canadians across the country.
