MGM Springfield Hosts Kentucky Derby Party at the Armory

Springfield, MA – The 149th Kentucky Derby took place on Saturday, and locals gathered at the Armory in MGM Springfield for a lively celebration in support of the race and to raise funds for a charitable cause.

The atmosphere at the Armory was electric as people eagerly anticipated the main event.

Although the horses were not scheduled to take their posts until 6:57 PM at Churchill Downs in Louisville, attendees at the Armory had been partying for the past hour in preparation.

This annual event serves a dual purpose – not only is it an enjoyable occasion to witness the most prominent horse race of the year, but it also serves as a fundraiser for Square One, an organization dedicated to providing family-friendly education and support services.

Since 2016, this sold-out party has attracted 250 guests, all dressed in their finest Derby attire, who gather to watch the race on a giant screen.

The attendees sipped on traditional mint juleps, participated in raffles and a silent auction, all while supporting a good cause.

“We are so excited that our annual Kentucky Derby party fundraiser has become a true signature event for Square One,” exclaimed one of the organizers.

“Every year, it gets bigger and better with more sponsors and guests.

The hats get bigger, the dresses get louder, and there’s more floral and fun all around.”

For those unable to attend the Kentucky Derby in person, 22News provided live coverage of the race right from the Armory, allowing viewers to experience the excitement from the comfort of their homes.

The Kentucky Derby is known for its surprises, and last year’s event was no exception.

Rich Strike, the second biggest underdog in history, defied the odds of 80-1 and emerged victorious.

Attendees at the Armory hope for another thrilling and unpredictable race this year.

Mayor Sarno expressed his enthusiasm for the event, revealing his intention to root for a particular horse.

“I can’t wait to cheer on this special horse,” he said.

As the evening unfolded, the Armory at MGM Springfield transformed into a hub of excitement and anticipation, as guests reveled in the joy of the Kentucky Derby while contributing to a meaningful cause.

Reported by Heath Kalb for 22News, live from Springfield, this memorable Kentucky Derby party showcased the community’s passion for horseracing and philanthropy.
