Transitional Improvements: Helping Homeless & Formerly Incarcerated Grocery Store Shooting; 1 Injured, 1 in Custody

There was an attempted armed robbery at a liquor store in West Ridge. Shots were fired and the store clerk is now in serious condition. CBS 2’s Darius Johnson is reporting live from our Street St studio.

This was no ordinary armed robbery as guns were drawn, a physical struggle ensued, and bottles were broken. According to Chicago Police, two men entered the California food and liquors near California and Vine around 10:00 pm. They brandished their guns and demanded money from the store clerk who fought back.

One of the men hit the clerk over the head with a glass bottle, prompting the clerk to pull out his own gun and exchange shots before escaping. The clerk sustained head injuries and was taken to St Francis Hospital for treatment. Chicago police are collecting evidence from both inside and outside the store, including shell casings.

The robbers did not manage to steal anything from the store, and as of now, no one has been arrested. Reporting live from the street side studio, this is Darius Johnson for CBS 2 News..
