Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is on a tour of the southern border and has arrived in Brownsville, Texas.

He is meeting with law enforcement agencies to review contingency plans ahead of the expiration of Title 42.

This policy change is expected to embolden migrants to come to the U.S.

as they will no longer be immediately expelled after crossing.

President Biden has since sent 1,500 troops to the region, but they will not be enforcing law or working in any military fashion.

Overwhelmed cities like El Paso, Texas and Brownsville have declared states of emergency due to the deteriorating situation.

There is a bipartisan Senate effort to extend Title 42 before it expires, but some Democrats, like Arizona Congressman Ruben Gallego, are putting pressure on the Biden administration to send more resources to prepare for the end of Title 42.

The White House has criticized Republicans, but next week the House will be voting on their plan to tackle immigration, which includes returning to Trump-era policies like continuing to build the border wall.
