A sinkhole that opened up on the five freeway at Western Avenue in Glendale caused chunks of concrete to fall onto the street below.

The incident resulted in the full closure of the southbound five for several hours, as Caltrans was concerned that the sinkhole would grow.

Crews are currently working on repairing the hole, but traffic remains congested.

The HOV lane and fast lane were reopened just before 8 PM, but the numbers two, three, and four lanes remain closed.

Fortunately, no cars were hit by the falling concrete, and no injuries were reported.
