A grass fire on North Padre Island has burned over 100 acres, but officials say that there are no structures in danger.

The fire is still burning tonight, but according to ESD number two, there is no threat to the community.

The burned area appears to be outside of Padre Island National Seashore grounds.

Several crews from the area have been battling the blaze, which started earlier in the day.

Eight area fire crews helped tackle the blaze, which is still burning towards the water and will eventually burn itself out.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and rumors that kids started the fire have not been verified.

Residents can expect to see smoke, but there is no danger to the public.
