A fire broke out at the Clayton Homes Apartments in downtown Houston, with crews currently battling the blaze.

The complex, located on Runnels near 59, was recently acquired by the state as part of the I-45 Expansion Project.

Back in July, the complex was shut down and scheduled for demolition due to the ongoing project.

The fire started just after 8 pm and was declared a two-alarm fire, with several crews on scene trying to put it out.

Houston Police blocked off several roads in the area, and arson investigators are on scene to help with the investigation.

The commanding chief is still present, and crews are currently working to put out hot spots behind the complex.

Those in the area are advised to find an alternate route as most roads are blocked off.
