A massive fire broke out early Friday morning at an unoccupied house on West Capitol Street.
Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly four hours before it was fully extinguished.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Concerns were raised about the many abandoned buildings in the community that homeless individuals use for shelter.
The house is located across the street from Stupak Community Services, a nonprofit that provides food to people in need.
The house has a rich history, having been a doctor’s office and a drug and alcohol treatment recovery facility in the past.
It has been vacant for the past few years, and its condition had deteriorated significantly.
The executive director of Dupont, Jill Buckley, hopes that the community can work together to find the owner or clear the lot to prevent it from becoming another eyesore in the area.
