Yesterday, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office assisted the United States Marshall Southeast Regional fugitive task force in searching for a wanted fugitive named Rakim Jones from Pennsylvania. The Sheriff’s Office provided pictures from the scene. Jones is wanted for attempted homicide in 2022. Authorities located Jones in the ivy Falls subdivision.

In other news, Keon Dickens has been indicted in federal court for making a bomb threat at the Social Security Administration’s office in Augusta last month. Dickens allegedly called the office and threatened to use an explosive device, and he showed a security officer a handwritten note claiming to have a bomb, which led to the building being locked down and evacuated. However, no bomb was found.

Dickens is facing charges of false information and a bomb hoax. Today, there will be a meeting to discuss plans for relocating students in Columbia County.

The proposal includes closing South Columbia Elementary at the end of the school year and preparing for the opening of Westmont Elementary. North Columbia Elementary is also expected to open in the 2025-2026 school year.

The meeting will take place at Martinez Elementary at 6:00 PM, with additional meetings scheduled for Thursday and next Tuesday.
