Paul Flores, a 45-year-old man, has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Kristin Smart, a 19-year-old woman who disappeared from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, California in 1996.
Despite her remains never being found, Flores was convicted in October for killing Smart, who was believed to have been a fellow student at the time.
Prosecutors claimed that Flores attempted to rape Smart in a dorm room and killed her in the process.
The sentence handed down to Flores is 25 years to life in prison.
This case has been a longstanding mystery in California and has finally brought justice to Smart and her family.
