Today, Kevin Meter, a man already serving a 12-year sentence for federal drug trafficking charges, was sentenced for the murder of a 15-year-old. Meter appeared before Judge Courtney Weeks for a plea hearing this morning regarding an incident that occurred on April 22nd, 2020.

In this incident, Meter engaged in a shootout with another driver near Central Announcer, resulting in the tragic death of 15-year-old Kyle Martinez. Meter pleaded guilty to second degree murder with a firearm enhancement, as well as aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and a firearm enhancement.

Judge Courtney Weeks sentenced him to 18 years in prison, with an additional 5 years of supervised probation. It is important to note that Meter is already serving a 12-year sentence in California for federal charges. Once he completes his current sentence, he will be transferred to New Mexico to serve the remaining time for this conviction..
