A man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after he fired into apartment walls, killing a woman who was two units away.
The victim, Shawna Robinson, was celebrating her 30th birthday when she was hit by a bullet that passed through an empty unit.
According to authorities, the incident occurred in 2019 at the Casa Deleganto apartments near North Star Mall.
Amir Powell, the perpetrator, had assaulted his girlfriend during an argument before firing three shots into the wall and fleeing the scene.
The District Attorney’s office argued that Powell did not intend to kill Robinson, but his reckless behavior caused her death.
As a result, the case was prosecuted as murder rather than manslaughter.
