A man named Ryan Paddock is competing in this year’s Los Angeles Marathon to honor the memory of his late wife.
Trisha Paddock collapsed and died of a heart attack after completing the 13.1-mile charity challenge of the marathon in 2022.
Trisha was part of a charity team that was raising money for the Asian American Drug Abuse Program.
This year, Ryan is running to raise money for the same program.
He has already raised over $20,000, asking for symbolic donations of 13.1 or 26.2 dollars.
Ryan is not a runner, and his three kids were hesitant about his participation, but he believes in the cause and hopes to raise awareness about substance abuse.
The marathon course starts at Dodger Stadium and will follow its traditional route until Brentwood, where runners double back on San Vicente Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard before finishing at Avenue of the Stars.
Ryan says he knows Trisha’s run time and will slow down to make sure she has a better time.
He believes that the people who have benefited from the Asian American Drug Abuse Program will be his motivation during the marathon.
The Los Angeles Marathon will take place on Sunday, and KTLA 5 will provide exclusive live coverage of the race starting at 6:00 am.
