Local Auto Shop Offers Free Repairs to Norfolk Woman Whose Car Was Hit by City Trash Truck
A Norfolk woman whose car was hit by a city trash truck recently found herself facing expensive repairs that the city refused to pay for due to sovereign immunity.
However, just hours after the story was aired on 10 On Your Side, a local auto shop reached out to offer its help.
Elite Auto Body in Virginia Beach saw the story and wanted to fix Siobhan Grant’s car free of charge.
The auto shop picked up Grant’s car and is set to repair the damages that occurred when a city trash truck driver accidentally hit her parked car outside her Norfolk house in October of last year.
Due to the driver performing a government job, the city has immunity in this situation and won’t pay for the damages.
Elite Auto shop manager Nixie Avera and his team are happy to help, with Avera recounting a similar experience he had in North Carolina with a school bus hitting his old truck.
The team hopes to have the car repaired and returned to Grant within the next couple of weeks.
Grant expressed her gratitude, stating that she couldn’t even explain how grateful she was for Elite Auto Body’s help.
She also thanked 10 On Your Side for airing her story.
