In a new police body cam video, we witness the rescue of a 5-year-old girl who had been kept in a closet. Our reporter, Kelly V, is live in the Newsroom with the video and the details of the charges the man now faces.
This incident took place in Arkansas. The body cam footage just arrived in The Newsroom, capturing the heart-wrenching moment when the little girl was saved. The father has been arrested and is now facing felony charges, including false imprisonment.
The police have identified the father as 40-year-old John Thompson. He was taken into custody on Thursday after he refused to hand his daughter over to DHS.
When the police arrived at his home to take custody of the child, Thompson falsely claimed that a judge had granted him custody. He refused to open the front door and insisted that the 5-year-old was not inside the house.
Eventually, he confessed that she was indeed present and led the police to a small opening behind a closet. He removed some boxes, revealing a board that had been nailed to the wall.
Behind that board was a small compartment with exposed insulation, posing a danger to the girl’s well-being. At the time of his arrest, Thompson was already out on bond for unrelated drug charges. Fortunately, the little girl is currently in good health.
