A teenage suspect is in custody after allegedly attacking a United States Postal Service worker with a machete in Lowell, Massachusetts.
According to police, the suspect hid in the mail truck and threatened the postal carrier with an air gun before drawing a machete and slashing the victim.
The attack occurred during a nor’easter on Tuesday afternoon, and the suspect fled the scene on foot.
The victim was treated for cuts on his hand and wrist.
This incident is the latest in a series of attacks on mail carriers in recent months, with suspects accused of stealing universal keys that give them access to mailboxes containing checks that can be reprinted and cashed.
The postal worker is said to be recovering, and the suspect has been arrested and charged with assaulting a federal employee.
