A New York City judge has denied the bid for exoneration by Anthony Sims, who was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the murder of a Chinese immigrant in 1998.
Despite Sims and his legal team’s efforts, Judge Danny Chun ruled that they had failed to meet the burden of proof required to clear Sims’s name.
Sims, who was visibly emotional after the decision was handed down, maintains his innocence and believes he was denied a fair trial.
His legal team plans to appeal the decision, but the process could take months or even years, further prolonging Sims’s ordeal.
