Increased Security in Place for Possible Protests Ahead of Trump’s Arrest
In response to former President Donald Trump’s announcement that he expects to be arrested tomorrow, authorities have increased security in anticipation of potential protests.
However, local attorney Richard Safi believes that it is unlikely that Trump will actually be arrested on Tuesday.
The Manhattan Grand Jury would need to agree on the specific indictment document, and an arrest warrant would need to be signed beforehand.
Prosecutors are investigating whether Trump falsified business records related to the alleged $130,000 in hush money given to adult film star Stormy Daniels prior to the 2016 Presidential election.
Safi says that there may not be enough evidence to charge Trump with anything more than a misdemeanor, and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is urging people to stay calm.
Meanwhile, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reports that the Secret Service will be set up at Mar-a-Lago in case of protests in the area.
Trump has called on his supporters to protest over the weekend, although he has admitted to paying Daniels, he maintains that he did nothing wrong.
