Human smuggler known as “La Guera” or “Dona Lupe” was arrested last week and extradited to the United States due to her long criminal history.
She is identified as the leader of an international human trafficking ring.
Ofelia Hernandez operated in the Zacatecas neighborhood in Mexicali, with the support of criminal cartels, since the 1990s.
She trafficked mainly foreign individuals from Asian countries such as Pakistan, China, and India.
During her arrest, several migrants were rescued, including three from India and two from Kazakhstan.
The operation was carried out by officials from the State Security Forces, Intelligence and Liaison Group, and the General Prosecutor’s Office.
The Secretary of Citizen Security, General Leopoldo Tizoc Aguilarr, announced that there are four more people pending extradition, and they are being closely monitored.
There is a close bi-national security coordination to dismantle criminal groups on both sides of the border.
