ierce County is currently discussing Measure One, which pertains to tenants’ rights. At present, the measure is not passing by a significant margin.
However, organizers of the initiative are still advocating for it, emphasizing the importance of protecting renters’ rights, particularly in cases of eviction and fee increments, especially affecting students. These organizers aim to empower tenants and restore their rights.
The current voting count shows 49% in favor and 51% against. Opponents of Measure One express concerns about potential unintended consequences such as increased taxes.
Additionally, an earlier law in Tacoma was enacted to grant renters’ rights but was considered less extreme compared to this initiative. Despite the initial results, the organizers remain optimistic and hopeful for the final outcome. This is one of two races being celebrated in Tacoma tonight, alongside the Council District number three race between Jama Scott and Chris Van Victon. Scott is leading in the race and expressed gratitude and determination to continue advancing her campaign during her recent speech.
Although the celebration is winding down, there is still a considerable crowd present. This has been a busy few months for all the races in Pierce County and the surrounding region. We will provide further updates from Tacoma..
