The verdict on Mukhtar Ansari’s extradition to Uttar Pradesh from Punjab is expected to be announced soon.
Ansari, a gangster-turned-politician, is facing over a dozen criminal cases in Uttar Pradesh, including the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai in 2005.
He has been in jail in Punjab for over two years and his extradition has been a subject of controversy.
The Supreme Court had earlier directed that Ansari be shifted to Uttar Pradesh’s Banda jail from Punjab’s Rupnagar jail, citing security reasons.
