A mother in Chicago is pleading for answers after her daughter, Deshawnay Yoakum, was shot and killed earlier this month in Bronzeville.

The 18-year-old spent several days in the hospital before passing away.

Yoakum was visiting a relative’s home near South Drexel and 45th when the shooting occurred.

She was a senior at Inglewood High School and was preparing for her prom and graduation.

Her mother shared that Yoakum was involved in the community and had been performing in the Bud Billiken Parade for the past six years.

She was also a cheerleader and enrolled in a nursing program.

Police have not made any arrests at this time, and Yoakum’s mother is urging anyone with information to come forward.
