Virginia Beach today to tour the damage caused by a tornado that struck the area on Sunday.

According to city officials, the EF 3 tornado destroyed 9 homes, caused major damage to 36 homes, and left 33 others with lesser damage.

The state of emergency declared in the area will continue until the end of May, and recovery efforts are expected to take months.

Governor Glenn Youngkin’s visit to the affected area is aimed at assessing the situation and offering support to those affected.

The media has been barred from entering the area during the Governor’s visit.
