California Governor Gavin Newsom unveils a new plan to provide insulin to Californians for just $30 for a 10-milliliter supply.
The plan is a partnership with a nonprofit generic drug company and needs FDA approval before production and manufacturing can begin later this year.
Delivery is expected in 2024.
The new contract also includes the state’s ability to manufacture its own lower-cost naloxone or Narcan used to reverse opioid overdoses.
This is a significant development as it is not happening anywhere else in the United States.
The announcement was made during Newsom’s visit to Downey.
He is also set to attend an event focusing on mental health care in San Diego the following day.
