This morning, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office assisted the United States Marshall Southeast Regional fugitive task force in the search for a wanted fugitive from Pennsylvania. The Sheriff’s Office released pictures from the scene and reported that Rakim Jones is wanted for attempted homicide in 2022. Authorities found Jones in the Ivy Falls subdivision.

Additionally, there was an update on Keon Dickens, who has been indicted in federal court for making a bomb threat at the Social Security Administration’s office in Augusta. It is alleged that Dickens threatened to use an explosive device against the building and showed a security officer a handwritten note stating he had a bomb, leading to the building being locked down and evacuated.

However, no bomb was found. Dickens is facing charges of false information and a bomb hoax. In other news, there are proposed plans to relocate students in Columbia County schools. South Columbia Elementary is set to close at the end of the school year, while Westmont Elementary will be opening and North Columbia Elementary is expected to open in the 2025-2026 school year.

A meeting will be held at Martinez Elementary to discuss these plans tonight at 6:00. There will be additional meetings on Thursday and next Tuesday for those who miss this one.
