The Florida Department of Transportation has announced a new initiative to address the issue of wrong way driving on ramps in Miami-Dade.

Wrong way crashes tend to occur between midnight and 6 a.m, with impaired drivers being the main cause.

Though these crashes happen randomly and less frequently than other types of accidents, they often result in multiple fatalities.

The new initiative involves installing additional signage and pavement markings to help prevent these accidents, particularly on exits and ramps.

In a five-year study, 280 wrong way crashes were confirmed, resulting in more than half of them resulting in injury, with 18% leading to death.

The Department of Transportation plans to announce more ways to address the issue at 11 A.M today, with the aim of keeping families safe on the roads.
