Flash flooding caused delays at Red Rock Scenic Loop on Wednesday as the Scenic Drive, Moenkopi, and Charleston were temporarily closed due to unsafe driving conditions caused by a flash flood at Oak Creek.
The road was closed as work crews cleared the debris, causing many drivers and hikers to park on the side of the road and wait for it to reopen.
Although some were patient, others like Sean Chaudry, a motorcyclist, decided to leave and ride elsewhere.
Red Rock Canyon officials released a photo of major flooding on the scenic drive, which delayed its opening.
Despite disappointment from avid hikers, the road eventually reopened at 1:30 p.m.
The regional Flood Control District plans to allocate $164 million for maintenance work programs in flood-prone areas as part of a 10-year budget plan for Valley flood management.
