Tragedy struck on the Hutchinson River Parkway in Scarsdale, New York as a car carrying six people veered off the road, hit a tree, and burst into flames.

The devastating crash claimed the lives of five children between the ages of 8 and 17 from Connecticut.

The victims were all from one family, and their names have yet to be released.

The sole survivor, a nine-year-old boy, managed to climb out of the back of the Nissan Rogue and was taken to Westchester County Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver, a 16-year-old boy, was among those who lost their lives.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident and have not yet released any further details.

The tragedy has left the small community of Derby, Connecticut, where the victims were from, in shock and grief.
