Six people have tragically lost their lives in a crash that occurred in downtown Houston. According to the police, the driver responsible for the crash ran a red light at a high speed. The crash took place at Fannon and Pierce, just east of 45.
ABC 13’s Nick Notario is currently reporting live from the scene. The footage shown earlier was absolutely shocking and horrifying. The witness I spoke to, who was sleeping on the streets nearby, described the impact as loud as a freight train colliding with a vehicle. When he approached the scene, he was appalled by what he saw.
Here’s what we know so far: four hours ago, a collision involving a speeding vehicle occurred at this intersection. Four individuals lost their lives at the scene, while four others were transported to the hospital. Sadly, two more individuals passed away at the hospital. One woman remains in critical condition, fighting for her life.
The police are currently investigating the details of the crash and have equipment at the scene to gather information. In our latest update, they informed us that the Chrysler 300 was heading south on Fannon, while the SUV was going east on Pierce with the right of way. The vehicle on Pierce had a stale green light, while the other vehicle ran a red light at a high velocity.
Family and friends are present at the scene, understandably distraught as they try to comprehend the tragic event. Sadly, we do not have any identification of the victims at this time.
However, we do know that one of the deceased was homeless, and the witness I spoke to fears it may have been him. He usually sleeps near the individual who lost their life. We will continue to provide updates as we remain on-site and gather the latest information from the Houston Police Department. This is Nick Notario reporting live from downtown for ABC13 iWitness News..
