The topic of eminent domain in downtown St. Louis at rental properties is currently being discussed in the Jeff Vander Lou neighborhood.
This discussion arose after the proposal of a new blight study which examines homes, businesses, and over 850 acres surrounding the new and upcoming GA West Campus. During the neighborhood meeting last night, Alderman Rasheen Aldridge revealed that approximately 61% of the buildings in the blight study area are vacant. This sparked concerns among residents regarding the use of eminent domain. However, Aldridge assures that his proposal would not allow eminent domain to be used against people currently living in their homes.
He believes that the development of the GA West Campus could potentially bring positive changes to this part of North St. Louis.
Nevertheless, he acknowledges the need for caution in order to avoid negatively impacting residents who may be forcibly displaced from their homes..
