Elk Point Jefferson Boys Basketball Team Wins with Buzzer Beater Shot
The boys basketball team from Elk Point Jefferson had an exciting game against Saint Thomas Moore, which ended with a thrilling buzzer beater shot by senior guard Devin Schmidt.
The team played a tight defensive game and secured the win with Schmidt’s last-second shot.
“I just pulled up and shot, it just went in, and I just went crazy, everyone did,” said Schmidt.
The game was even more special for Schmidt because it was his birthday, and making the winning shot was the cherry on top of a great day.
The shot even landed the team on SportsCenter’s Top 10 list.
This is Schmidt’s last year playing with the team, and he said he’ll remember the experience forever.
“We’ve been playing together forever, so it’s really fun to be in the state tournament to do it,” he added.
Head coach Jake Ottkin praised the team’s hard work and dedication, saying that they’ve been training hard for a long time to get to this point.
“These kids have worked hard, not only their entire lives but really started putting in a lot of work this summer to get to this point, so to really see it come full circle last night and for us to come away with a victory against a very good opponent was just a lot of fun,” said Ottkin.
Reporter Rene Ortiz caught up with the team during a shootaround at the Sanford Pentagon and congratulated them on their win.
The team’s victory is a great achievement, and they can be proud of their hard work and dedication to the sport.
