A man in Valinda, California, barricaded himself inside a home after exchanging gunfire with sheriff’s deputies and shooting at pedestrians on the street.
The standoff lasted for eight hours, with a SWAT team and deputies in position to negotiate with the armed suspect.
The incident began when citizens started calling the sheriff station around 2:30 pm, reporting someone shooting at pedestrians.
When deputies arrived at the home, the suspect met them with gunfire, and they returned fire.
The man then barricaded himself inside the residence, and police evacuated nearby homes and shut down a wide area.
Despite efforts to negotiate with the suspect, he is no longer communicating with the police.
Residents are being kept at a safe distance, and some are in contact with family members by phone.
