A driver was killed by a falling tree on Alpine Road in San Mateo County, as reported by the California Highway Patrol.
The driver was in a work van heading home from work followed by a colleague when the tree fell at around 1:30 pm.
The incident was described as a freak accident, and unfortunately, the driver was killed inside the van.
CHP and fire crews responded to the scene, but more trees continued to fall, crushing another car parked behind the scene.
The road is closed in both directions, and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
It is recommended to stay off the roads during these storms, especially on days like this when the roads are wet, the ground is saturated, and the wind is strong.
The incident has not caused any traffic impacts to the highway, but Alpine Road remains closed, and tow trucks are working to remove the trees and the car.
