Former President Donald Trump Predicts Arrest and Calls for Protest
Former President Donald Trump has taken to Truth Social to predict his arrest next week by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.
Trump alleges that he will be arrested on Tuesday, with the DA’s office reportedly preparing an indictment for alleged hush money paid to adult film star, Stormy Daniels, on the eve of the 2016 presidential election.
If Trump is charged in the Stormy Daniels hush money case, he would be the first former president in U.S history to be indicted.
The Manhattan DA’s office has presented evidence to a New York Grand Jury that could lead to possible criminal charges.
Trump has called on his supporters to protest and “take our nation back” if he is arrested.
The case revolves around a $130,000 payment made to Daniels, allegedly to cover up an affair with Trump that he denies.
Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, claims to have made the payment on Trump’s behalf.
Trump declined to testify before a grand jury this month, and numerous Republicans claim the investigation is politically motivated.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy tweeted that the case is an “outrageous abuse of power” by a “radical D.A who lets violent criminals walk as he pursues political vengeance against President Trump.”
Congressman Jeff Jackson thinks the evidence may implicate the former president.
He says that not only do they have evidence of Michael Cohen being reimbursed, but also Trump’s signature on the checks.
The fact that the reimbursement was structured may indicate an intent to conceal and that Trump knew what he was doing was wrong and was trying to hide it.
Despite the looming charges, Trump says he will continue campaigning.
If he is indicted, he would be the first U.S president ever to face criminal charges.
