Viral Video Showing Making of Plastic Eggs Being Sold as Real Ones in Market is False
A viral video circulating on social media platforms that appears to show the making of plastic eggs being sold as real ones in the market has been fact-checked and debunked.
Reverse image and keyword searches revealed that the video was from 2017 and originally circulated on Chinese social media platforms claiming that plastic eggs were being sold as real ones.
However, a branch of the Nanjing Public Security Bureau clarified that the visuals actually showed the making of egg-like toys meant for children.
These toys are available on Chinese e-commerce platforms and carry a logo similar to the one seen on the eggs in the viral video.
In 2018, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) released a Guidance Note debunking the myth of plastic or artificial eggs, stating that there is no technology to produce such an egg that would perfectly resemble a natural one.
FSSAI CEO Pawan Agarwal urged the public not to be afraid and to have confidence in the country’s food control system.
Therefore, the claim that plastic eggs are being sold as real ones in the market is false.
