A deadly house explosion in Cache County has left residents in the Newton area in shock.
The incident occurred on Thursday night and claimed the life of one person while leaving two others injured.
The victims have been identified as John and Karen Mullen and their son, Joshua Fox.
According to reports, the explosion took place just before 6 pm and caused massive flames that destroyed the entire house.
Neighbors who knew the family expressed their shock and sadness, with one neighbor describing the scene as “horrific.” Karen and Joshua were transported to the hospital with multiple burns and other injuries while John was found dead inside the home.
The Cache County Sheriff’s Office said that the Mullens were professional licensed dog breeders and had 30 dogs on their property in a separate structure at the time of the explosion.
Sixteen dogs were inside the home, five of which were recovered about five hours later.
Three of the recovered dogs are in critical condition, while the remaining dogs on the property are in the care of family members.
The cause of the explosion has not been determined, but one neighbor reported smelling propane shortly after the incident.
The investigation is ongoing, and the community is coming together to offer support and assistance to the family in the wake of this tragedy.
