A construction worker has died after being hit by a driver at the Gateway Expressway project in Clearwater, according to troopers.
The 55-year-old victim was flagging traffic for the project when he was struck and killed.
This is the second fatality associated with the Gateway project in the last six months.
Pinellas County Deputy Michael Hartwick also died in September after being hit by a front loader while directing traffic away from the construction site.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has expressed condolences to the family of the deceased worker and stated that safety is their top priority.
FDOT will cooperate with law enforcement and review the investigation when concluded.
The Gateway Expressway project aims to create faster, safer, and more convenient travel in parts of Pinellas by adding two new elevated toll roads.
