Tragedy struck a construction site in Port Saint Lucie when a worker fell into a quarry and drowned.

According to the man’s family, he was operating an excavator at the edge of the quarry when the ground suddenly gave way.

The worker and the machinery fell into the murky water and were unable to be rescued.

Divers are currently searching for the body in the quarry, which is owned by Vulcan Materials Company.

Federal investigators are also on the scene to conduct an investigation.

The victim was a resident of Port Saint Lucie and leaves behind a grieving family.
