Connecticut State Representative Robin Comey has been arrested and charged with operating under the influence (OUI) after a car crash near the state capitol.
According to eyewitnesses and the police report, her car ended up upside down after hitting a green dumpster.
Comey was given sobriety tests at the scene, which she failed, and her blood alcohol was almost twice the legal limit.
She had been at a public hearing earlier in the day before going to a nearby bar with a few state lawmakers.
This is not the first time Comey has been in the spotlight for drinking; two years ago, she appeared disoriented while speaking on the house floor.
Connecticut has seen a significant increase in alcohol-related fatalities, and Comey’s arrest comes at a time of heightened concern over drinking and driving.
She has been stripped of her committee assignments, and her colleagues are hoping she focuses on her health and well-being.
