Child Dies After Falling Out of Vehicle and Being Hit by Car in South Carolina
PICKENS COUNTY – A tragic incident in Pickens County has resulted in the death of a six-year-old child who fell out of a moving car and was subsequently struck by another vehicle.
The victim has been identified as Axel Garcia, according to the Coroner’s Office.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The heartbreaking event occurred yesterday near the intersection of Saluda Dam Road and Grant Valley Road at approximately 6 p.m.
It has been reported that two cars were traveling west when the young child fell out of the first car and was tragically hit by the following vehicle.
Authorities are working to determine which car was responsible for the collision.
Witnesses in the area observed a woman exit the first car, visibly distressed and screaming.
She immediately attended to the child, performing CPR until emergency responders arrived.
Despite their swift arrival, the child succumbed to his injuries and tragically lost his life.
Earlier today, two teenage boys came forward, identifying themselves as occupants of the second car involved in the incident.
They adamantly denied being responsible for hitting the child and expressed deep emotional distress over the tragic situation.
It is important to clarify that this was not a hit-and-run incident.
Authorities are still working to confirm whether two cars were involved or if the incident solely occurred with the first car.
South Carolina Highway Patrol has clarified that Axel Garcia was not ejected from the vehicle, contrary to their initial press release.
The door on the driver’s side unexpectedly opened, leading to the child falling out.
There was no indication of any forceful action.
The investigation into this heart-wrenching incident is ongoing, and as more details become available, we will provide updates.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Axel Garcia during this unimaginably difficult time.
