Apparent shootout in Gentilly leaves homes and cars riddled by bullets
A chaotic shootout occurred in the Gentilly neighborhood of New Orleans, resulting in multiple homes and vehicles being struck by bullets.
The incident took place in the vicinity of Pleasant and Humanity Streets, leaving a trail of destruction.
Local news station WDSU’s reporter, Cassie Sherm, provided live coverage from the scene, where she spoke to concerned neighbors.
According to witnesses, the scene resembled a battle zone, with shots fired indiscriminately.
Bullets pierced cars and homes, causing damage and chaos in the area.
Shockingly, this shootout took place while a school bus filled with children was nearby.
Witnesses described how the kids dropped to the ground in an attempt to seek cover, while crying and screaming erupted around them.
An eyewitness pointed out a truck parked nearby, which had been one of the unfortunate vehicles hit during the incident.
The rear window and license plate of the truck were both damaged by gunfire.
The violence didn’t spare the nearby blue house either, as it sustained extensive damage with approximately 12 shots fired into it.
The authorities, including the Dillard Police, arrived at the scene promptly and began investigating the incident.
They are examining the evidence, including footage from a security camera installed in one of the affected houses.
According to one individual who viewed the footage, two individuals were seen walking down the street when a car started chasing them.
A gunfight broke out between the individuals on foot and the occupants of the pursuing vehicle, which eventually sped away from the scene.
Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries thus far, and the police are working diligently to determine the cause of the shootout and identify those responsible.
It is a relief to note that despite the presence of children on the school bus, none of the stray bullets hit it.
